About CommonFixes

Most computer help online is written for people who already know what they are doing. You arrive worried about a blue screen and leave with ten new words you do not understand. CommonFixes exists to be the opposite of that.

What we actually do

We collect the problems people genuinely run into, in the words they genuinely use, and we write out the fix as a short list of steps. Easiest and safest first, most involved last. Right now there are 157 guides here, and we add more every week.

How we choose the steps

  • • We start with the fix that solves the problem most often, not the cleverest one.
  • • We use the tools already built into your computer wherever possible.
  • • We never recommend a download unless it comes from the maker's own website.
  • • We tell you plainly when a problem is hardware and not worth chasing further.

Who this is for

Someone who unwrapped their first laptop last week. Someone whose work machine started screaming like a small engine. A parent helping a child, or a child helping a parent. If you can read and click, you can follow these guides.

An honest note

We are a guide, not your technician. We cannot see your computer, so we cannot promise every step will suit your exact machine. Back up anything important before major repairs, and if a step feels beyond you, that is exactly the right moment to ask a professional.
